Can anybody tell me the meaning of the black ships vs white? And the black dots vs white dots. See attached. Thanks very much

I believe the dotted line indicates the flight path of a USN airstrike. That's a nice silhouette of an SB2C. The "Eastern Airlines" logo and that arrowhead looking symbol in the lower right portion are airfields. The black and white ships were to differentiate naval and commercial shipping(?).
Now we wait for replies from Forum members who actually know.

Thanks, but it is the black and white icons I am looking for the meaning of. This particular diagram, as is shown, is a Strike on 19 Oct 1944 that took place just off the coast of Orion, Luzon, Bataan, P.I. Four ships were hit, one of which is sunk. As you can see, there are 4 white ships, and 4 black ships, some have 1 dot while others have 2 dots. I am trying to identify the ship that was sunk. The crew that sunk the ship was shot down and all three died.
