Here are a couple photos. They are of the two A-36A Mustangs of the 3 that are known to exit.

The silver/black one was photographed by me over 20 yrs ago, and now, it's restored/rebuilt as the beautiful accurately restored A-36A owned by the Friedkin Family.

The other one is on display at the National Museum of the US Air Force. That photo is one of my many photos of it, from October, 2018.

I have other Mustang photos, but the rest of them are more "everyday" (as if that word could be used to describe the Mustang!). I've seen maybe a dozen Merlin Mustangs at airshows and maybe 6 or 7 on static display in museums, etc.

My advice.... Don't just look at them, save some pennies and go for a ride, you'll never regret it. This was from 24 years ago and it remains a favorite memory.

I agree. However, if you are not used to flying in small aircraft, it is certainly worth spending some smaller money first in a taildragger like a T-6, so that you are not overloaded
on your P-51 Flight.
I have been lucky to fly in a dual-control P-51, and that is really the best for an experienced pilot if the P-51 trip can include you having some stick-time.
My simple thoughts of flying the P-51? It is very exciting, it is very noisy, it has good (prop) performance, it is quite responsive and it is quite physical.

What turned out to be a heckuva lot of fun for me was a sailplane ride. I had two. It was more economical than warbird flight. I got about a minute and a half of stick time and it was the most fun I had with my clothes on.

I agree, sailplane flying is very pure and enjoyable. It is possibly the cheapest and most enjoyable combination.

The P-51 had a kill ratio of 11:1, which makes it one of the best planes ever flown during WW2. Absolute work of art!

Yes they are, my very first aerobatics, way back in 1985, was in a glider. I'm finally going to get back to it next year, getting my glider rating for my flight review and then try my hand at competing in glider aerobatics.
