This smells not of FAA, but of Homeland Security/TSA. It just happens that the FAA is the regulatory organization that codifies the new "law". TSA does not own the regulations that govern these areas.

I would suggest you send your complaints to Homeland Security/TSA too. The rulemaking docket is the only place where public comment is considered. Other than that, contact your Senator/House Rep and let them know. Writing a gov't body is a profound waste of your time.
