Anyone recognise this engine?

The caption says "Rolls Royce Cylinders in 24 Shop, Elswick Works, Newcastle upon Tyne, 16 March 1939" It doesn't look like this one which I think is a Merlin from 1942. From the badge on the machine I think it is also an Armstrong Whitworth Unit.

Do you mean an Armstrong-Siddley engine or an Armstrong-Whitworth workshop?

I don't think that Armstrong-Siddley ever put a V12 into production, and if it was a straight 6, it was in WWI.

I believe he is referring to the multi-spindle boring machine, which has a logo in the casting, with an A superimposed over a W and with LTD in smaller letters across the top - all inside a circle.
