The fact that this was planned is described in various specialist books.
For example in the book "Me 109 Gustav" by Werner L. Blasel.
The problem of the Czech Avia S-199 cockpit sliding hood was,
it was not tight in terms of air flow.
Getting this under control was the goal of the German development engineers at Messerschmitt!
