Do any of you know of books written about aircraft maintenance performed during WWII? There are many covering the aircraft and the pilots that flew them. I would like to read of the experiences / challenges that the aircraft mechanics faced repairing battle damaged aircraft (particularily bombers) while getting them ready for the next days missions. Thanks!

Don't know if this will interest you but there is a book called "Restore to Service" by Walter Venn. A history of 4RSU-482 Maintenance Squadron. This is a RAAF unit that operated in the Northern Territory in WWII.

I am sure there are some. I would love to read some. As a maintaner I understand that without the maintaners the pilot is just a highly paid pedestrian.
