Box art.....

This isn't exactly a "Box" but it is something I picked up recently for a nostalgia build.
I actually goofed because I was really looking for the kit that had both the T-34/76 and T-34/85.
Funny thing about the artwork is that I don't think I have ever seen a muzzle brake on this tank in photographs.

I'm not saying if, I'm saying when, Airfix release an new SEPECAT Jaguar in 1/48, I hope that get some inspiration from this box art and not their 1994(?) release!

I built the Matchbox kit back in the day, which box art isn't bad either!

Is this a Roy Cross?

Searching for some of the Eduardian () Bf 109 instructions, I came across this re-boxing of their Bf 109G-6 (a weekend edition):

Haven't seen this particular one in the hobby stores but I'm not such a frequent visitor and don't buy models every week or even every month. The model is here.
A very nice (and realistic, as we will see later) box-art showing an air battle with a B-25 over Kalamaki airfield, Greece. This airfield was bombed by the 12th AAF (340th BG.) on 15. and 17. November , 1943.
And now... I spy with my little eye...a serial number:

64540 means that the complete serail # should be 46-4540. Ooops! Ordered in 1946! The war was over!
Looking at the plane itself, it's an older and unmodified B-25C/D (has a belly turret and has no tail- and waist-gun positions) with a tail # 6F denoting the 486th BS. After checking the history of the 340thBG, 486th BS was not assigned to the mission on 15th Nov. 1943, but the squadron was over the target on Nov. 17, 1943. One crew was lost on this day - the plane of Lt. John D. O'Leary. Here's the HQ war diary:
Checked the MACR # 1826 for this loss:

The correct serial number is 42-64540, a B-25C-20. Kudos for Eduard for finding the real serial! But they could do better and show it correctly in the picture as 264540.
The bigger mistake IMHO is the incorrect tail number - it was not 6F but 6N:

The pilot and co-pilot survived. The bombardier was probably killed in the air and the 3 gunners in the back were probably killed in the burning plane on the ground.
Pilot's affidavit is an interesting reading for those who are interested - see attached.
Cheers!

Republic P-47D-15-RE Thunderbolt 42-75761 404 FG, 9 AF 4K-B June 1944

I had no time for that, I had no paint, and I had no experience with water decals, so it was a hot mess. I built models for about eight years, ships as well as planes, and wasn't much good at it, and when the music bug bit I found where my talent was.

I read through the build threads here and seeing the pics I can see how building models can itself be an art, but just not one that captured my brain like putting together a good song or solo.
