Tex was an original. Always enjoyed him and Mazie, who hosted me overnight for an interview.

Sidebar: before the war at NAS North Island, San Diego, Tex and Swede Vejtasa and Bob Dose' (later semi-famous as a test pilot) cut a wide swath. Bob was an expert wheel man as well as aviator, and the trio became known to the California Highway Patrol but the CHPs couldn't keep up with Bob's Buick roadster.

BTW: contrary to what you might see elsewhere, Tex had high regard for Robert L. Scott. Tex said that Bob told the 23rd FG ops office, "Put me on the board for all the tough ones until I say different." Tex said, "Bob never said different."
