I am working with a group that is restoring a WW2 era Douglas C-47-A. I am looking for information on the IFF Recognition lights that the C-47 would have had. I understand the for USAAF Multi-engine aircraft, the position of the lights would have been on the underside of the starboard wing, near the wingtip, and they would have been arranged from the leading edge to trailing edge in the order of red, then green, then amber . Were the lights arranged in a straight line, or a pattern of some sort. Of course, pictures would be a big help

This is the IFF light panel that will be installed in the belly of the Stinson Reliant my CAF unit is restoring. While the lights themselves are standardized, and the order is standardized, the spacing differs from airframe to airframe, but yes, they'd be in a straight line.

Does your group have a subscription to Air Corps Library? They have thousands of C-47 drawings and many manuals that y'all probably need. Currently their header states, "We're focusing on the C-47 now and have added descriptions to 31.2% drawings." so there may be a bit of a wait to easily find what you need, but the information is in there.

Should be a total of 4 lights for the IFF system....the 3 colored ones on the fuselage belly and a white light on the backbone of the fuselage.

There would be 9 formation lights, with some of those located at the wingtips. Need to dive the manuals and drawings for all the locations and the switchology for running them all.

BTW...Which airframe are you guys working on and where's it located, if you don't mind outing it.
