Casting resin for parts in Oz, where????

In the States I used to mold the control surfaces of wings and tail for moving surfaces and used a two part epoxy just like the Eduarde material. Does anyone have a source for this in Australia? I have been all over the place for someone in moulding supply for something and have come up with bupkiss! Anyone??? Puleeeze.. Cheers, Bill: cry

Don't know about Oz Bill, but most Art and Craft shops in the UK stock the materials. Try one of the bigger Art shops, especially if it's near an Art College... that type seem to have everything!

Hardware and Building Supply stores are sure locations for two part epoxy/resin kits in US

Well Airframes and DrGonDog, we era talking about Australia here. And, I am finding this place could be called The Far Side of the World. There is no one in any craft store, or moulding and casting material supplier who knows what I am asking for. From Sydney to Adelaide, to Melbourne, Nada! I never had a problem finding this in the US. Lived in the Bay Area most of my life before coming here 9 years ago. I am having a bugger of a time. don't think it could be mailed from the US? cheers, Bill

As a novice modeller, I'd like to know how to use this stuff. Can it be used for example to fabricate parts that are missing or that get broken???? What are the techniques for using it???

A missing part you cant duplicate,.....this tread is only about mould making an casting your parts with resin see my tread ,it has some pictures from my moulds and cast pieces,

Fantastic. I assume the gunk N45 is looking for is the stuff that makes the mold. The stuff that makes the part is Resin, correct? And where do you get that from, can i ask?

parsifal, I am sorry I haven't replied to your question till now, been busy with other stuff. I am attaching some pics of what I do with the casting materials. I just find it easier to mold some of the surfaces and trim the casting instead of trying to be ultra careful in cutting the model and having to repair. I hope the pictures clear this up. One picture shows the elevators propped up at gluing so the angle is alike for both. cheers, Bill

I know how to meet people dealing with two part epoxy resin in Australia. I suggest please try to find any of the major gliding clubs, mostly in the Outback. They have modern German made gliders, of GFRP, a bunch of epoxy and carbon fibre, and how to get their damaged bird fixed; the locations of the repair shops. But be careful on the initial contact that the repair specialists won't understand what a modeler is talking about; the purpose of using a tiny sum of the resin. Using filaments of carbon fiber in resin casting will prevent deformation may occur later.
For glider pilots, epoxy resin, carbon fibre, Germany, laminar flow aerofoils, countries in Eastern Europe, Plexiglas, thermals in Australia, weather and the air are all important next to his/her life.

Just to follow up on this thread. I got the 75 hardness stuff, but it doesn't seem to be rigid enough. I think in the states I might have been using a tan colored stuff that might have been 90 hardness. The manager here at Aldax is looking into it as I gave him an ailerone I cast to show how flexible it is, and how rigid parts from Eduarde are. the Quest continues. parsifal I am sorry I missed your question, I am including the picture of my wing trailing edge in the mold, and then the cast part from it. cheers, Bill
