Could this piece be from a Taylor Aircraft (L2) of 1942?

Unfortunately the photos are not clear, but the stamping on the panel is "1942 US TAYLOR". It was recovered at the Patton Desert Training Center site near Blythe CA. It was being used as a fireplace grill. My only knowledge of Taylor is from Wikipedia. The company made the L2 which was a spotter plane. (I think)
Any insight is appreciated.

Tried to punch up the 3rd picture, to make it easier to make out the writing, but this is the best I could do.....

...Looks like it says, "U S Taylor 1942".
Are we even sure it is an aircraft part, or are we just assuming because it says "Taylor" on it?
I ask because the aircraft company was known as Taylorcraft.
