Curtiss Electric prop brush box applications.

I have three brush boxes that I would like to know the application for. I suspect these are post war for a transport prop. I've spend a few hours on the web but can only match to a photo in Smithsonian. Anyone out there have part number to application info?
I will get the parts out of storage and make photos.

The ink stamp has second digit mostly illegible but Assy 194968-1.
I seem to remember that the brushes on P-51 Mustang are rectangular and these are a diamond shape.
it would solve an old mystery if these were identified.

The logo is different. But this all does suggest that in fact my three brush boxes are possibly war time units after all.
Tony do you know what the actual brushes look like?
I will look for my bag of brushes and the part number and post some photos.
it feels good to think my parts might make it into the air again on a war bird.

According to my 1940 Curtiss parts listing there were no 10496n and 16496n numbers in use at that time.
I will try another (also non digital) manual tomorrow dated 1943.

I got all mine out and I am sure all 4 are 104968-1 assemblies.
A second stamp I think is sub assembly is 100217-4M. All have same brush count and connectors. Only one shows running marks on the brush ends. The brush part number is 127996. Is this the same as your brush?
I'm kinda thrilled these seem to be WW2.
The packing date on the tin of brushes was 1955.

Sorry I do not have a picture of the brushes. I may be able to find some picture though. I will check back later if I find them.

I found the brush assy 104968-1 in the Curtiss Parts Catalog for Electric Propeller Control System, AN 03-20BA-2, 1-Aug-1945 but not the aircraft it is fitted to. At least you now know it was WW2.

I notice the data plate is retained with Phillips screws instead of standard slot. I looked up the latest patent there and it's dated 1938.

Now that I know these are from P-40, I'd like to get them onto P-40 and ideally flying. Does anyone know how I could get the Technical Orders to service these? I found here some TO but not for the props and brush blocks. I'm thinking these were maintained at the flight line fully but might be wrong and there are depot level instructions such as replacing the electrical receptacles.
