The brits aren't much better I don't think I recall anyone wearing Canadian flashes in the original but I believe they made up around 20% of the crews
 
In the last part of the book, the narrator is terrified that the brits dropped one bomb on the 22 foot thick reinforced concrete u-boat pen and blew it to shreds. thats an accomplishment that needs to stay british, hollywood is awful sometimes.

I finished the book, excellent finish, cant wait to get the movie.
