The movie is so fake. It is just a hollywood version of the real story. In reality it was the British not the US that captured that sub. Now everyone thinks it was the US and it is just hollywood.

It was the USN, not RN who captured it.
Today its safely entombed at the Museum of Science and Technology in Chicago.

I agree and I am an American. When I saw it, I was very disappointed in the flagrant violation of historical data. However, with the growing audience of Europe and the rest of the world, movie makers are starting to be less America centric movies and are now considering the world wide audiences. Of course that doesn't mean that they will be historically correct. Pearl Harbor was another movie that took liberties with history (not so bad), but I still enjoyed the movie.daishi12 said:U-571 was yet another fiction perpretrated by Hollywood to show the the "Good Ol' US of A" won WW2 all by itself and Britain was just a little jumping off point into Europe. U-571 was condemmed by British film critics for exactly that reason (sorry chaps....rant mode over now )

By the way here is a picture I took of an Enigma when I was in Paris a few weekends ago.
While I hope there isn't a a USAAF pilot, an American pilot in the Squadron would be quite acceptable, if only for the sake of historical accuracyDerAdlerIstGelandet said:Agreed Dave, I just hope it gets more better. DerAdlerIstGelandet said:That is different because that is historical accuracy there. What we are talking about is making the whole squadron American crews and what not which hollywood has a habit of doing.
Well not really whole squadrons but basically make the story to be that it was not the British or what not that basically planned and carried out the mission.
