Where can I look for the Aircraft Data Card and accident report for: Navy A3D-2 Skywarrior
Bu No. 10809
Accident- July 26,1960

The BuNo is, US Navy and US Marine Corps BuNos--Third Series (135774 to 140052)

138948 (MSN 10809) VAH-? 'GM-4' noted deployed aboard USS Ranger (CVA-61), 1957-58 (photo) (VAH-9 as GM-11) lost Jul 26, 1960 in accident while operating from USS Saratoga CV-60. Night carrier landing, collision with the water. Two wave offs; 3rd approach appeared normal. But the A/C struck the water 3 miles astern

You can get a copy of the History Card by emailing here, Emil Buehler Library
"Can I please get a copy of the Aircraft History Card and Accident Report for Douglas A3D-2 Bu No 138948."

A good source of information is the Deck Logs available at this site.
Your accident is noted in the deck log for Saratoga on that date if you pull it up. In the first paragraph with the lat/long. Also second paragraph where the SAR located debris but not survivors.
Search by ship name and month. Not all of them are scanned yet.

Some Cruise Books are available here with crew and aircraft photos (but not Saratoga in 1960).

If you request a History Card you can ask them to help you decipher the Status Codes because they are unnecessarily confusing and often counter-intuitive.
