A few more details...

Joël Pape was shot down while escorting a Bloch 174 of the II/33 on reconnaissance over Arras. He was still at the controls when D.520 hit the ground...

He and another French pilot were put out of action, but the Bloch 174's mission was a perfect success.

The pilot of the reconnaissance plane was Antoine de Saint-Exupéry and this adventure formed the plot of his book "Pilote de guerre" ("Flight to Arras").
