It looks like that Do17 has Spanish National Markings with a swastika on the tail? I don't remember seeing those used together, but I am getting older.

Actually you are right. IMHO it is an image taken with a filter. Also it can be a propaganda image or a quite poor scan of the source image. The Do-17E belonged to the KG255. The code on the fuselage and the wings is the Luftwaffe pre-war style. According to my notes the pic was taken in 1937 or 1938 during a military exercises in Germany. If it would be of the Legion Condor kite the code and the markings were of the different style. So either the pic shows the Do-17E after returning the Germany and not all of the former Condor unit markings were repainted yet or during the exercises the wing and fuselage crosses were overpainted with the black disk. However I have found two pictures of the KG255 Do-17s with the similar markings presenting something interesting. The second one below ( I believe is the same 54+F37) shows that's very nicely. The fuselage cross can be noticed now and the disk around the marking seems to be of the red colour. This may confirm that the pic above and the same one below here , was taken with a filter that caused the red getting very dark ( almost black ) and finally disappearing of the corsses. The shot with the Do-17E code 54+E39 also shows the LW cross over the darker disk as the background too. What is more the wing crosses look like being also wrapped by the disks. Additionally, the unit code seems to be of the red but not of the black like the 54+F37. But the Do-17 belonged to the 9./KG 255 while the 54+F37 to the 7./KG 255. To sum up .. it is not the Condor unit plane IMHO.
