Thanks, johnbr! All armchair aviators, as well as gray eagles should see this. We often forget the challenges and complexities that go into the birds we fly, even those of us like me, who have watched the development and maturation of everything since the F4, the 707, Learjet, Cherokee, Baron, and even the Scweizer 2-32. It's always a huge, all-consuming, and largely unseen team effort.

Went to the Cradle of Aviation Museum yesterday with my son Jack and saw these in a display case. Had recently heard about the offer to the USAF, but wasn't sure about the Canadian one until now. Oh and by the way, 2020 is the 50th anniversary of the Tomcat! Anytime Baby!
 
Interesting stuff! The clip mentions Gordon Israel as the F-14 designer. He deigned many famous race planes in the 1930s and even raced himself. I knew he worked for Grumman, never caught this connection.
