Money stopped the Eagle, twin-engine bias (and range?) the Viper. I also wonder if the RCAF was done with the light fighter concept after taking the F-5 Freedom Fighter.Still can't figure why they didn't want F-15s or 16s. Coulda sub contracted and built them at Canadair!!!!
Some other Canadian Whatif Phantoms here...with a pair of teasers below:It's too bad the RCAF didn't buy the Phantom II instead of the Voodoo and Starflighter. The Phantom could do the former's NORAD role and the latter's NATO strike role better than either aircraft. But we'd need to operate the CF-100 and Sabre well past their use by dates. Of course, if Canada did take the Phantom we'd have likely never got the F-18 and would have likely kept the Phantoms running well into the 2000s.
