First post: thought this might be of interest. Part of North American Aviation's continued drive for an "Improved F-86" - these dive brakes were tested in early 1953.

The standard F-86D dive brakes were located on the aft lower fuselage. I read where two F-86D pilots in the 1950's had girlfriends who manned a fire watch tower in a remote area. One day they bought some cartons of ice cream, attached little parachutes to the boxes and stuck them under the drive brakes. Then they "dive bombed" the fire watch tower and delivered the ice cream to the girls.
