F2G-1 Super Corsair: what is this square opening for?

I noticed a little square opening near the start of the intake on the F2G-1 Super Corsair.

I have highlighted the opening with a red box on the attached image. This is the only image I could find where the opening was clearly visible.

Any ideas on what this is for? And can it be opened/closed by the pilot?

No these weren't opened/closed, just open all time. The openings are the bonduary layer exhausts ( 4 ) and also let the incoming air go outside when the main carburetor air intake was closed. Here you are ....

The Yak-11 and Tupolev Tu-2 also had "alternate" air but was cable operated by the landing gear going down, closing one and opening another air intake on top of the engine cowling to avoid sucking in debris from the landing strip.

The Yak-11 & Tu-2 inlets sound like a form of tropical filter, was the Corsair also something like that? It would need to come through a filter medium or some sort of cyclonic or labyrinth rout to work as a tropical filter.
