First half of '43, the 109 Gustav is still one of top fighters in the field?

come to to think of it...i have never read were a LW pilot flew a yak 3 or La5/7 and compared and contrasted it. is there a report of that out there?

It's a good read but very anecdotal. Don't expect any hard facts and figures. He was one of the top pilots at Rechlin and flew many different types (from Lancasters to Tempests) so his opinion is certainly valid.
