Hello!
Will B-24 formating monitor fit into recon category?.
I mean "Judas goats" brightly painted, to be used to make a formation, and indicate the attack course.
It wasn't a bomber (no bombs, reduced or removed guns), surely was a kind of scout, but a recon?- they most often turned back before reaching enemy territory...

I'm no Alan, BUT. I wouldn't think a werry Willy would not fit this build. A bomber converted to a cargo transport or a recon version of the bomber would. A VIP transport such a the Swoosh would be acceptable. BUT I've been known to be wrong, no, no I've never been wrong, incorrect maybe but not wrong!

Raido? What radio? I have a tin foil hat! I hope I'm wrong because I have decals for a couple of B-17F formation birds.(Hey Hal, don't trust Don, I wouldn't believe the radio in his house...

In my opinion, YES. Also type like the Saiun which I was earlier considering.

If they are setup as a recon plane, If they are like a Ruff which is a fighter, than not. Again, I am not Alan.....

This is what a formation aircraft would look like.
It is not Recon because it does not interact with enemy territory or forces to acquire information.
It is not Transport because it does not carry something from one place to another.
It is not Training because new crew were not used in these aircraft as detailed here. The Polka Dot Warriors: How Assembly Ships Guided the Mighty Eighth - Vintage Aviation News
The AR 196 and Saiun were both Recon as these types were used to scout for targets; screen the formation from threats and spot the fall of shot from gunfire.

Thanks for entrusting me with these delicate deliberations. I didn't spend much time here over the weekend because of 2 Labor Day visits and the weather here in Pennsylvania was so marvelous; wife and I were out in the convertible.

In fact I am all right with that. It could be a recon plane if commander-pilot could modify the route in accordance to weather/enemy reaction/other(?) conditions. I do not know if that ever happenned. Perhaps even then, it would be more a pathfinder, then reconnaissance plane.
I am going to make it anyway. See you in finished model gallery!
