Why did Hawker-Siddeley market the Meteor under the otherwise dying Gloster brand? Why not the Hawker Meteor? With the exception of the Javelin, the rest of the firm's jets (Hunter, Sea Hawk, Harrier) were branded as Hawkers.

The Gloster E.1/44 prototype resembles the firm's own Hawker P.1035 protoype, both of which first fly in 1947. Surely a focused effort on making one Hawker-Siddeley jet fighter would have made more sense? Why the in-house duplication? Perhaps George Carter didn't get along with Camm?

Because the contract was signed with Gloster?

That is a weird way of saying things. The Meteor was designed by GAC (Gloster) and mainly built at Hucclecote (also Baginton with A-W). The term 'brand' is at odds with then contemporary terminology: Gloster was the constructor (the 'C' in SBAC) and design office for the aircraft. Equally, the Hunter, Sea Hawk and Harrier were attributed to their correct design offices. It had nothing to do with H-S "branding" anything.
