Greg's at it Again - P38 Range and "The Bomber Mafia"

I watched it. The "Bomber Mafia" is the assumed premise and his weak support of that in the past led me to head-scratching and face-palming throughout. He also ignores that P-38s were sent to North Africa because that's where they were needed to cover ground ops, minimizes the mechanical issues they suffered over Europe, and so on and so forth.

Greg suggests that Eaker didn't car when P-38s were taken away from the Eighth AF for the North African campaign.

I'm not sure of the truth on that side, but he also lost a chunk of his bombers (mostly B-24s), which he must have been mad about.

Not that he had any real choice in the matter anyway.

Also, he says that the P-38J was "available" in August 1943. Correct me if I am wrong, didn't the P-38J start production in August 1943?

And the range calculations based on best speed for range - ~220mph TAS for the P-38 for 800+ miles on internal fuel. Sounds like a great plan for the ETO.
