Hello all. I need a little help with a particular training squadron located at NAS Sanford, Florida, in WWII. In the photo below you can just make out a non-standard paint scheme on the nose cowl of this F4F-4 parked on the flightline at NAS Sanford. It appears to be completely around the cowling. I have not identified which squadrons trained on these airplanes. My searches have turned up the PV-1 Ventura and post war activities but nothing on the Wildcats based there. Is there a US Navy data base that might help? If anyone can chime in I'd appreciate it. Thanks.
