As we all know,F8F is much lighter with a better engine.
it's 9,850lbs/10,380lbs(F8F-1/F8F-2) weight and powered with a R-2800-30W engine which can provide 1,720/2,250/2,500 BHP(Normal/Military/Combat) at SL.
And the Corsair is heavier with a powerless engine
It's 12,405 lbs weight and powered with a R-2800-18W engine which can only provide 1,700/2,100 BHP(Normal/Military) at SL
So,I think the rate of climb of F8F should be better.
But the best rate of climb of F8F-1 that I can find is 4,600 at SL with combat power
And the best rate of climb of F8F-2 that I can find is only 4,465 fps at SL with combat power
The USN report comparison also shows that F8F can climb faster
But the best rate of climb of F4U-4 that I can find is 4,770 fps at SL with maximum power
I wonder why?Is there any different between the combat and maximum power?Or is there any higher figures of F8F?
