The Red Bull aircraft pictured has had the turbosuperchargers removed, as have most of the surviving P-38s. This is to save weight and simplify maintenance, as well as the fact that today they are display aircraft and are low altitude only. So, the sound of these birds today is not the quieter sound of the exhaust exiting the turbos. It's louder, not like short stacks on P-51, but just as melodious.

Follow on to my above post. Four decades ago there were surplus dealers with warehouses full of WW2 aircraft parts, at what today sound like ridiculous prices. I needed to change one bad turbo on a P-38. Took a gallon can of oil & a 3 foot rubber tube to a dealer in Long Beach CA. He grabbed a fork lift truck and hauled out turbos, brand new in their original boxes, and opened them one at a time. I attached the can and hose to the input line and spun the impeller with an air bottle to check the bearings. When I found one I liked he sold it to me for $75 & loaded it on my pickup. Allison V-1710-111 & -113 engines were $350 each, still in their new boxes. If the government hadn't sold all the war hardware it didn't want and couldn't use at give-away prices a lot of us would never have been able to fly ex-military birds. Truly, those were the days!
