Hello, I'd like to ask for some advice... Is the number stamped on the cover a part number, or could it be an aircraft serial number? It is the same size as the one found on the Messerschmitt 109.

Ahoj,

No. Usualy the stamped number there is a part one that was listed in the spare parts catalog for a plane type. In the case of the German aircraft the two first digits should indicate the plane type. Because the pics you attached are too small the number can't be read correctly.

The aircraft serial number is generally only on the main data plate. For German aircraft, many were on the side of the fuselage, and then later in the war, moved to the tail section, sometimes welded inside the frame work. This was because the tail section usually survived crashes and fires. The aircraft serial number on a part would usually have been painted on, to keep track during maintenance. Here is a part of the NASM He219 where the last 3 of the aircraft serial was painted on the part.
