The story of acquiring mine goes back to the mid 70s, a time when funds were very minimal. I had seven dollars till payday, the coming Tuesday, and the day was Saturday. I was crossing a vacant lot from my apartment to a fast food place. With proper menu selection, I could have change for Monday. This empty lot was the site of an impromptu craft market on weekends, mostly decorative. At one table, a young guy had only two items. The mixture control bracket and a large, can style Fairchild (with flying horse logo) altimeter. The item asking price was $10 each, but the fellow would not take seven dollars for both although I pointed out none of the lady shoppers would likely buy his stuff. The best I could do was seven for one and as the mixture control would fit on a shelf better, that was my choice. I was hungry by Tuesday.

As a rule of thumb with Consolidated Aircraft part numbers

IF the part number starts 28 and is followed by a letter (or two - very rarely more) then more numbers it will almost always be from the PBY5 series aircraft.

If 32 followed by the same layout it will almost certainly be from a B-24.

As always there will be exceptions -- especially from Boeing where many will tell you that every different minor design team had their own numbering system (and changed it as soon as someone else used it).
