Help needed with Spitfire MKXII air filter

    Hi all
    I'm building the Airfix 1/48 Spitfire MKXII kit and I'll build version A of the kit (EB B flown by South Australian Donald Smith).
    I've noticed that his plane has something attached in front of its air filter looking like an extension.
    Does any one could help me some photo or details of this part? See image below.
    I'll appreciate any help.

    I would say its a metal mesh debris filter

    That's gold! Thanks mate!

    The kit part looks like an extension of the filter but I'll try to scratch build something similar to the photo.
    Also it was nice to see the starboard of this plane. Cheers
