My Dad died in 1982. He served as ground crew with 252 squadron in Nth Africa. I had few real or lengthy conversations with him about his war service, but over the years I've pieced together a few snippets and found some tantalising photo's. This one, from the IWM shows an officer and a young serviceman dealing with an air sea rescue launch in the Nile Delta in 1942. The launch is powered by a radial aircraft engine and looks like it's steered by an aircraft rudder. The young man looks very much like my father. I wonder if anyone else can add any detail, in particular re the unit or squadron responsible for this launch?

Welcome to the site. All I've found so far is that the photo was taken March 11 1942. It was made from an aircraft crate, spare floats, Walrus engine and Dragon Rapide rudder
Thanks, that's news to me. May I ask the source of that info?

Hi there. In your lovely city last week, stayed at Golden Bay. Paradise.
