Interesting that the engine never made it past the experimental stage for an experimental aircraft...might have made the FM-2 a higher altitude threat.

...wasn't the F8F based on the idea of a "trimmed down" F6F?Please note the F8F Bearcat was a FM-2 replacement. Intended for use off escort carriers and it too did NOT have a two stage supercharger.
