tying to ID this device - much of the lettering is rubbed off but you can see "Mk.III" in red. On the other end it has four electrical sockets with a knob marked "Dimmer Switch". Other words are "10 Mile Zero", "Alt Zero" and the section on the end has "GLIDE - Before Reading, Ensure Motor On".
What is it & what type of aircraft used this ?

Interesting because the rack mount fittings are on the left instead of on the bottom as is usual.

The location of the ID plate is visible to the right of ALT 0 where there are four screw holes. There is writing there ??20??? that might help. Do you have photos of the base and other sides? Knowing what sort of inputs and outputs may provide some help.

Also what part of the world you found it might help - my gut says British but during ww2 a lot of US electronics were Brit designed and US made so I could easily be wrong.

Just a guess at the moment:- Blue Steel control box

look familiar? Offset bombing control box for NBS / H2S, could also have been fitted to early V-bombers. Pic shows it fitted to a Warwick?
