I have come here to help me understand where I came from. I lost my dad when I was 14. Consequentially I never got to know him as an adult, to understand his difficult story. So a couple of years ago I decided to find out everything I could about his time in the Army in WWII that left him severely wounded and how that affected the rest of his life and mine too. The result was a diorama of his mortar team on a hill above the village of Mailly on the opening day of the Lorraine Campaign where they suffered a direct hit and he was the only survivor.
I decided I needed to do this for all the men in my family and friends who have influenced my life. I'm here to try to find out more about my father-in-law S/Sgt Paul H. Perry who was a Radio Operator/Gunner on B-25s in North Africa and Italy. I know he was with the 12th AF but I don't know which BG or BS. He was a man of iron clad integrity. If he said he did something you could be certain he was not embellishing it. He always said that when Eisenhower was in the area Ike insisted my FiL make his breakfast. My plan for the diorama is his crew posing in front of their B-25 having their picture taken by the Crew Chief when Ike rolls up in a jeep.
I made a serendipitous discovery when I connected with a neighbor when I was a kid in Illinois. His dad flew P-38s and flew escorts protecting my FiL on his bombing runs!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
