Picture of Type 2 13mm (MG131 license version adopted by Japanese production) ammo with all bullet types. Type 2 entered production in the late 1944 and was used as turret MG on several Japanese aircrafts like D4Y3a, M6A1, P1Y and etc

It should be noted that the labels are direct translations of the Japanese names for these projectiles. The Navy did not use the alphanumeric designations, like employed by the Army (such as Ma-103 or Ma-204); so their naming convention is extremely simple: ammunition type followed by the modification (HE; Tracer; etc) / model number (Modification 1; Model 2; etc).

  • HE filling mass: 0,9g
  • HE filling type: Pentolite
  • Tracer filling mass: 0,6g

Incendiary cartridge modif. 1:
  • Bullet mass: 34,8g
  • Incendiary filling mass: 1,2g
  • Incendiary filling type: White Phosphorus

  • Incendiary filling mass: ?
  • Incendiary filling type: ? (Probably Al-Mg + Ba(NO3)2 as on similar Incendiary cartridge model 2 used on Type 99 20mm)
Tracer AP cartridge:
  • Bullet mass: 38g
  • Tracer filling mass: 1g
  • Tracer work time: ?
  • Tracer color: Yellow
Tracer cartridge:
  • Bullet mass: 34g
  • Tracer filling mass: 0,6g
  • Tracer work time: 4,5s
  • Tracer color: Yellow
Training cartridge:
  • Bullet mass: 34g
HE cartridge:
  • Bullet mass: 35g
  • HE filling mass: 1,7g
  • HE filling type: Pentolite
