JU88D Parts? Stalingrad Context?

Hi,
This is my first post. I am a military stuff collector living in Germany. Purchased recently, this interesting "gift" seems to represent a historical context of the JU88.
The plate is carved with ""Unserem Technishen Offizier. Die Flugzeuggruppe der 2/F Ob. d. L. Ostfelddzug den 13.5.42." In my view, all device is made of avionics materials and parts, but not sure that were made specifically from a JU88 damage parts. So here I am for asking your views! My guess is that the upper part, that received a shot, could be the tip of the horizontal stabilizer elevation control surface. Thank you!!!

Regarding your question .... IMHO the upper part that got the shot is not the tip of the horizontal stabilizer elevation control surface because these parts ( not only of the Ju-88 ) were made of either the pressed plate, thin relatively or a wood but not of the solid piece of metal. Judging by its shape it is a pices of a propeller blade tip. The another piece of the blade seems to be used for the base. The clock attached to it, is the WWII Luftwaffe Junghans J30 BZ ( also Swiss made Juvenia J30 BZ ) made by the Gebr. Junghans, Schramberg and a couple of other manufacturers, cockpit clock with chronograph function. It was used in many of different Luftwaffe kites eg. Bf 109, Fw 190. These clocks are also known as the Borduhr Bo-UK*. The Fl numbers could be Fl.23885, Fl.23886, Fl.23888 depending on the time of producing.

Hi, thank you for your highlight. Now is clear that you are right, it is a propeller part, as it has the curved frontal side. Also looking to the painting rules, it shall be green in front and dark in the back. Did the confusion because it was supposed to be a recce aircraft, so the shot could be from anti-aircraft weapons. In this case is clear that was a shot from other aircraft that approach from the back.

Yes you are right. The damage looks like the shot came from the back. As far as the clour is cocncerned ... the all German WW2 props were painted overall the RLM 70 Schwarzgrün colour mostly. At the end of the war it might have happened the black one could be used. Anyway it is a very nice item.

I would have to check on the detail. But looking at the prop pieces I got the impression it may be not from the Ju-88. It could be from any plane that was used by the Flugzeuggruppe and had the metal VDM propeller.

Clashed posts again too. The model looks like it's meant to be a Ju 88, so presumably it is a Ju 88 prop.

And yes the matal VDM propellers were used for the early Ju-88 variants powered by the Jumo 211 engines.

Thankyou my friend! That clears up a mystery at a local museum too - they have a metal prop hauled up by fishermen from the Irish sea, which they also say is a Ju 88 prop. Dzięki Wojtku.

Just looking up 2.(F) Ob.d.L. They began their campaign in the Northern sector (under Luftlotte 1, from 21 Jun '41 to Sep '41) operating eight Ju 88D-1/D-4 and 5 Do 215 aircraft.
They re-equipped around Dec '41 as an independent unit in the Southern sector (until end-Nov '42, as Luftlotte 4), but I was unable to find out which types they operated.

Initially Dornier 17F,P, R and Dornier Do 215. By the March and April 1941 the Staffel had partially re-equipped with Junkers Ju 88s. Over the Russia they used the Ju-88D-1 and 5 sub-variants. But it doesn't mean that the souvenir was made of the prop blade that was taken from Ju-88. The pieces are to small to assess if it is the Ju-88 VDM blade or not. Certainly we may assume that's the Ju-88 VDM blade, especially there is no evidence it is not of Bf 109E for instrance.

Well, going deeper with the received clues found that, that has possible connections due to the mentioned date. The type could be the Ju88D.
