I'm looking for information on BuAer aircraft service changes from the 1950s'. I'm specifically focusing on the changes that apply to the Douglas Skyraider. To assist my research, I am working from a listing of aircraft change publication numbers for the A-1 series. This list includes a brief description of what the change covers but is not very informative.

For example, A-1 service change publication AD/SC #406 is titled "FUSELAGE; step & canopy modification". As you can see it's not very informative and only gives a general description of what it covers. However, from additional research I've learned a little more and now know this covers the change in the sliding enclosure external control handle and step geometry for the AD-5 but that's about all.

What I would like to know is, what is actually contained in an aircraft service change publication? I would assume it contains a written technical description of the change and define the scope of work to be performed. Does anyone know for sure? Does it contain any drawings or just reference them? How about affected BUNos? Does it address where and when and by who the change would be performed? Does it contain any other data about the change?

Ultimately it would be beneficial to know if there is a current source to obtain a copy of a specific aircraft service change. Does anyone know of such a source? If one could obtain a copy of the change publication it would answer a lot of questions.

Thanks for your assistance.

Not as specific as you may need but perhaps helpful. You'll probably need to find Douglas Aircraft documents to provide the detail that you are looking for.
