Hi all,
Pretty sure it was this forum that led me to this stuff years ago and I'm trying to find it again.
Essentially I recall reading that in early 41 the air ministry required tests to be run to standardize the mkV's build. Essentially I recall that some factories were not using flush rivets, some weren't treating the skin surfaces properly, cannon bulges weren't uniform, and as I recall neither was the rear view mirror leading to wild differences in performance depending on where the spitfire was built.
There were a series of comparison tests run to find the best of all these features ending up with the round rear view mirror as standard, best case bulges etc so all factories could standardize.
If anyone knows wtf I'm talking about I could really use some links to those original docs.
Thanks in advance.
