Dick's latest job . This is a M36, sometimes called ,inaccurately, a "Jackson" tank destroyer. Ours served in the US army inWW2 briefly and then sold to the Yugoslavian army post war where they tweaked it with a T55 engine. It will be refitted with the proper Ford GAA engine and used for rides.

. I'd always read of it as the Jackson. Did it have a proper Army name? Was "Jackson" stuck on by the Brits or its crew? What's the story here?

in the offical US army records there is no use of the Jackson name as far as I know of. To quote Nick Moran from Can Openers : By the time of Gen. Barnes's order of 24 November, possibly because it may have effectively given Gen. Pershing two vehicles, the name "General Jackon" had been selected over the previously proposed "Black Jack". So it may have been a case of being named but never used by the crew or the army. Much like a M4A2E2 assault tank was never called a "Jumbo" in army records or used by the crews. Current theory is that it was a name created by a model company post war to promote their "bigger" tank.Great stuff,
