Hi all, I'm wondering if someone can please point me to a good website or provide info on the various types of magnetos used on both Rolls Royce and Packard Merlin engines? I have a BTH C-6SE12S (British made) and two Delco GM S12LAP4 magnetos. I have been able to confirm these were used on Merlins but it seems the design (and part numbers) changed somewhat over time so I'm trying to work out which aircraft they may have come from. I'm in Australia and after the war we scrapped many of the Merlin equipped aircraft such as Spitfires, Mustangs and Mosquitos. After the war and until the late 1950s we also have Merlin-equipped Lincoln bombers - I suspect one of the Delco units is from a Lincoln as it has a decal attached saying it was reconditioned in the 1950s (The decal is damaged and the last digit of the year can't be read). According to one source online my BTH unit is a later model one than fitted to the Mark 1 Spitfire, this makes sense as the Spitfires we had here were Mk5s and Mk8s. Cheers.
