Do you know any interesting paint schemes for the MiG-23M and ML? I want to paint one like this, but I could only find one photo of it, maybe you have some?View attachment 834382
This is already "folk art", when tanks on monuments were painted pink, and the coloring of airplanes from the Soviet legacy was limited only by the artist's imagination.

MiG-23ML, 20-26 (c/n 0390324255), flew with JG-8 as '488' ... although she seems to be not used with the painting in the unit but it is quite colourful.

Are MiG-23ML and MiG-23MLA the same machine, or is there a difference?

The aircraft was put into operation in the USSR November 24, 1982 under serial number 0390324644. Three days later, it completed the first flight and then another 7 training flights.
He flew to the Czechoslovak Republic with two more Mig-23ML machines on December 22, 1982.
The aircraft first got into the air with us on April 25, 1983 and was piloted by F. Hlavica.
In 1984, the aircraft participated in the exercise STIT84.
The year 1988 became almost fatal for this machine, when on September 23, during the flight, all the oil leaked from the aircraft, but fortunately the pilot, Capt. D. Mládek, managed to get the aircraft back to base. After this assumption of an air accident, the R-35 engine was replaced.
Another engine replacement followed in 1991. In July of the same year, one of several aircraft representing our army at the British Air Day International air Tatto in Fairford. The aircraft was piloted by J. Miller. In the same year, it was presented on the first international day in our country. in Kbely.
In 1992, the aircraft has 1000 landings, this year it is also demonstrated at the air show in Bratislava at CSIAF92.
It was shut down in 1993 and, as the first thirty-three, received a civilian international transponder and GPS satellite navigation.
At the turn of March and April 1994, he was one of two Mig-23ML aircraft, which tested the French Magic-2 at the base in Mont de Marsan. In May, he took part in sharp shootings in the Balt zone. In June, he took part in the celebrations of 50 anniversary of the Allied invasion at the Yeovilton base. In August, it was also at the Slovak event SIAD94 in Bratislava.
In September of this year he received a new tiger camouflage and on October 25 B. Zavavadil flew it to his new place of work in Čáslav, where from 1.1.1995 he became part of the 4th ZSL, where he works with the 1st Technical Squadron. on the prescribed work PP2 back in Planá near ČB. In July, the aircraft will take part in a visit to the base of Neuburg.
In 1997, the Mig made 1,500 landings and the engines in Planá were replaced and the R1 was overhauled. It did not return to its home base in Čáslav until May 1998. Due to the modernization of the Čáslav airport, it flew from Náměšť nad Oslavou in August and September. It was decided to end the operation of Mig-23Ml aircraft by the end of 1998. The last flight action aircraft participates in October 15, when it flies a total of 1050 hours. Čáslav on December 9, 1998 piloted by Lt. Col. Josef Miler.
It is interesting that even in 1999 the aircraft is maintained in operation by aircraft repair shops in BB, where it is flown by local flying pilots, most often Maj. Zdeněk Ouda. It is also in operation in 2000, when the celebrations of the 60th anniversary of the founding of the 312th Squadron of the RAF will take part. Shortly afterwards, it was scrapped and exhibited at the gate of the airport in Planá.

Well done. However it seems that a couple of the stencils were of different text. BUt it is possible these depended on the MiG-23 variant and its devices.

In mean time here the another shot of the Russian MiG-23 with the red disks at the undersides seen very nicely ...

Why is the belly of the plane only partially painted?

View attachment 834934
Do you know what this eye on the plane means?

I have found the kind of marking painted on the MiG-23P (МиГ-23П) of the 415, 472, 28 IAP ( 415 ИАП, 472 ИАП, 28 ИАП ) and a few more. All the regiments were of the 2nd and 3rd Corps of the Moscow District PVO ( 2 Kорпус и 3 Kорпус Московского округа ПВО ).

Here the answer ...

Since what year has it been there?

The MiG-23M was made in 1976. It looks like she was sent to the Aviation Museum Khodynka, Moskva in 1989 but exhibited from 1991. In 2012 she was dismounted and moved/sent to the Vadim Zadorozhny Museum of Technology, Medyn (Медынь), Kaluga Region, Russia. In August 2014 she was put together and displayed in the Medyn museum.

I am currently looking for photos of the MIG-23MLD from the Afghan campaign. Do you happen to have any photos or diagrams?

So... Now I have questions. I found a photo of a plane with the tail number 55, on it you can see decals in the form of missiles

But the diagrams and drawings from the Internet differ from the photograph, because in the drawings of these rockets there are much more
af_55_a (1).jpg

I need to either find a photo of an aircraft with the same tail number and the same number of missile decals, or find out how many missiles are in the photo.
