I never met Larry, but I know him well. VA-105 was part of the Air Wing along with my last squadron, VF-31 aboard the USS Saratoga. The photo would be as I'd have known him: not in full dress, grinning in front of a flag.

It took two decades to locate the crash, an additional two decades to negotiate and identify remains, and a total of 52 years to complete the skilled, exhausting and intricate recovery process for his family.

We all owe special blessings to the tireless and unheralded efforts of the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency bringing closure to so many of our honored veterans, to whom we owe the gift of our nation.
