Greetings all!,
Been lurking here for some years and its been deeply enriching all the way. My first post at ww2aircraft and with due respect and apologies, it has to be one not associated with aviation.
This is my circumstance:
A couple of like minded friends and I, recently procured a 1943 Chevrolet T17E2 Staghound AA from a scrapper, Though its exhibits a lot of rust and crud, it is remarkably intact in terms of parts and components. We're looking at a long term restoration project, most likely running into years.
While the hull and automotive aspect is largely within our capability, the turret is a bit of an alien realm for us. The basic Technical manual (For the E1 version) TM 9-741 is readily available and it is hoped it should cover most of the aspects of the E2 version apart from the turret. Service Parts Catalogue (SNL-G122) is also very helpful for everything except the anti aircraft turret.
To the extent that I have understood, from the data plate and scarce information on the internet, the turret on the T17E2 is an Norge Division (Borg-Warner) N80, mounting twin .50 Cal M2s. I've also learned that the N80 was originally meant for British Motor Torpedo Boats (I have not been able to establish which exactly). Furthermore, it is understood that the turret (or Mounting?) was actually made under license given by Frazer-Nash for the F-N D 8394 turret mount.
My queries thus, are:
1) Does a separate Technical Manual and Service Parts Catalogue exist for the T17E2? (I already have the one for the T17E1)
2) Does a Technical Manual and Service Parts Catalogue exist for the Norge N80 Turret or the F-N D8394 turret/mount?
If such exists, any information or leads would be deeply appreciated.
Sincere Thanks in Advance!
Warm Regards,
Moa
