The Sukhoi company has initiated the development of a Light Tactical Aircraft [Legkij Takticheskie Samolyet]. At the MAKS-2021 air show, journalists were presented with a new lightweight single-engine Checkmate fighter. Reportedly, it will be single-engine, have supersonic speed, low radar signature and super-maneuverability. Thus far, all that has been seen looked like a trade show mockup. If so, the first flight might come by 2027, with an initial operational capability around 2030. The new aircraft would seem to be a Russian counterpart to the single engine American F-35, and the Chinese FC-31 twinjet.
