Greetings Guys, Gals;
A collection of some of my XB-70 photographs.
The second North American XB-70 was involved in a mid-air collision
with a Lockheed F-104, 8th of June 1966.
..... The F-104 chase aircraft collided with the XB-70's starboard wing tip,
and rolled across the upper surface of the aircraft. Removing both vertical
stabilizers, and rudders. Then bursting into a fire ball it fell to the earth.
The pilot of the F-104 was killed upon striking the ground.
With no vertical stabilizers, or rudders, the pilots of the XB-70 lost control
of the A/C and tumbled to the earth. All crew members on the XB-70 were
killed.
A sad ending to the United States version of the SST.
