Primary mission is vs enemy aircraft in daytime?
P-38, without question.
Night Fighter?
Mosquito.
Ground attack?
Probably P-38.
Anti-shipping?
Mosquito, especially the rocket-equipped ones (the P-38 could carry 5" rockets, but not as effectively).
Almost any other mission?
Mosquito.

While the Mossie was an outstanding machine, I have to go with the P-38.
All of the Lockheed's attributes aside, my Uncle Jimmy flew them in the PTO, so I *may* be a bit biased.
