I'm looking for documentation for a particular P-47 "razorback" that flew in the 36th Fighter Group's "Easy's Angels". Color profiles suggest the rudder serial as 326628, but it appears that was in error -- actually 325528. Letter code was 7U-P. "7U" was the unit, while "P" was the specific aircraft.
The take-off shot is great, but I would love to get a higher resolution image, if one exists. I don't know the source of the image I have, but it the best and closest to the color profile's representation.
The shot of the rudder (which clarifies the serial) is from a color film screen grab. It shows the non-standard serial application (partly over hinge line onto rudder) and also shows that the stab is olive drab with white stripe (color profile shows all-yellow stab).
Interestingly, I've located a shot which appears to be the same aircraft, but probably after a repaint -- either before or after -- as well as another screen grab after getting 7U-P, but before the cowl being painted yellow/black.
With respect to the supposed repaint shot, note the non-standard application of the serial (extending past the hinge line onto the rudder) is the same as the yellow-fin screen shot. Also note that the upper wing insignia is not the standard 40", but at least the 55" (if not the 60") diameter. The color also looks more like RAF dark green than US OD, but you never know with old color images (and the scan appears to be from a printed book or magazine).
Finally, note the crash landing shot -- fin serial number is the same -- but factory applied (all on vertical stab), and definitely not an Easy's Angels aircraft. Could this be the same aircraft, but earlier (prior to repair, repaint, and reassignment)? Could the same tail number have been used on two different aircraft?
