At least that s/n did serve in WWII. How much of the actual aircraft was around in 1945?

Used to be based out of Eden Prairie, MN for many years. Attended many Minnesota CAF airshows back in the 1980'-90's.. Last "Minnesota" owner was killed in a P-40 crash and plane was sold in 2024 I believe. Up for sale again it looks like.
There is a book on the history of this airplane that is quite interesting.

Four million isn't much in today's money. Every time I buy groceries, I pay more than I bought my first few cars cost.

I recall a little classified ad from Flying magazine in 1969.
P-51D for sale, with spare Merlin engine, $18,000.
Of course, in 1969 you could buy a brand new pretty decent car for about $2000. Admittedly, it would not have had air conditioning and maybe not an automatic transmission.
In Tony Levier's book he said that in 1946 they were selling brand new P-38's with full equipment including drop tanks, for $1500.00.
