Duke Nukem. First real one I played with another guy by modem.
But first must be Il-2. The game, but evenmore the community. Met some great players Face to face Did some research for development of the game.
Quit with the cliffs of Dover.
Would not mind going back in time for that.
You missed something. But if it isn't your cup of tea....well thats ok.
I liked il-2 also because you could make a skin for a plane. I was quite chuffed when the skin I made for an I-16 was used by others. Based on the JG27 Bf 109E-4 desert camo. It was a blob that looked like a heart that did the trick. A great "fortunate mistake"
Once with a dutch team we went against a German mob. We all, but 2 of the very good single engine players for top cover, took the tb3 and carpet bombed the crap out the german base. It was hilarious. Because the 109 did not have much fuel and free Hunt cost much fuel. Strategy then was to roll away on your airfield wait for attack to end, take off and go after the bombers.
There was nothing left. No fighters, no aaa nothing.
I remember that fondly.

I differ about the trivia bit. Il-2 atrackted a lot of research, researchers. Serious educate people. And als new blood for the aviation. Flight sim is used and allowed for real pilots in training.
I might not be your taste but trivia is a bit harsh.
I mean i would like to have the stuff in the link but the wife might get a bit peed off.

I'm with Airframes. My time was spent building and flying models, flying full scale, hanging around airports taking pictures, and in the evening making plastic models. No time for games.
I was maybe a bit too general with my comment.
I have no problem with flight sim and air combat sim. When I stated "trivia" I was referring to the average "shoot em up" or "car driving" computer game.
